Our Story

Pure Prone Sleep

Built by a prone sleeper, for prone sleepers — because no one else was going to do it.

Most people sleep on their back or side. The entire sleep industry — every mattress, every pillow, every "sleep system" — is designed around them. If you're one of the roughly 7% of people who naturally sleep face-down, you've spent your whole life making do with products that weren't made for you.

That's where this started. Not in a lab. Not in a boardroom. In a bedroom, at 2am, with a face pressed into a pillow that wasn't doing the job — and a growing awareness that the airway issues showing up in sleep studies were directly connected to how the body was positioned at night.

Prone sleeping works.
It just needed the right support.

The prone position — face down, chest down — naturally opens the posterior airway. For many people, it's the position where breathing is easiest and sleep is deepest. The problem was never the position. The problem was that every mattress on the market forced your face into the surface, compressed your neck, and made the position uncomfortable enough that you'd eventually roll over.

The solution required rethinking the mattress itself — not adding a pillow on top of it. A cavity cut directly into the foam. A face rest assembly that sits inside that cavity, adjustable to your face shape, with gel-infused memory foam and a cooling cover. Sheets engineered to wrap the cavity opening and stay put all night. Every component designed to work together as a single system.

The System

It took years of prototyping to get the geometry right. The cavity depth. The face rest height range. The way the pocket sheets need to behave around the opening. The mattress cover options — DWR fabric for durability, bamboo batting for breathability — that affect how the whole surface feels against skin that's in direct contact with it all night.

Why It Matters

Prone sleeping isn't a quirk. For a meaningful number of people, it's the position where the body naturally wants to be — where breathing is easier, where the spine finds its own alignment, where sleep actually feels like rest. The research on positional breathing is real. The experience of waking up more rested in the prone position is real.

"The position was never the problem. The mattress was the problem."
Pure Prone Sleep — founding principle

Pure Prone Sleep exists for the people who already know they sleep better face-down — and who've been told their whole lives to sleep differently. We're not asking you to change how you sleep. We built a mattress that works with how you already sleep.

The blog is where we go deeper — the science of prone positioning, airway mechanics, spinal alignment, and the stories of people who've made the switch. The shop is where you can see the full system. And if you have questions, we're easy to reach.
